Changing your HOSTS file before DNS propagation

dns propagation

After buying a domain, it may take up to 2 days before it propagates. Below is a workaround to access the new site while the domain is propagated.

http://123.456.789.159/~domain/is no longer supported by cPanel.

We now use http://domain-com-au.tempurl.com.au and we still need to enable this for you.

This may not work on some CMS platforms (such as WordPress) where mod_rewrite is required or if the CMS relies on the domain name being accurate. We recommend using a HOST file for accurate display of the site.

The HOSTS file on your computer is located in the following location:
Windows – C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
Open this file with Notepad - Run as Administrator.

Insert at the line at the bottom of the file example.com

Now save your changes.

Run “cmd” and hit enter. Type the following:
ipconfig /flushdns
Browse to your site using http://example.com/ or http://www.example.com/
